PLAN YOUR VOTE! CHECK THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

👉🏾 In 2025, WHAT RACES ARE ON MY BALLOT?

This year is a local election year. Bridgeport voters will elect 20 members of our City Council, 5 seats on our Board of Education, and 3 City Sheriffs. Bridgeport elects two Council Members from each Council District – and we have 10 Council Districts in total. The Board of Education candidates and City Sheriffs are elected citywide.

👉🏾 WILL THERE BE ANYTHING ELSE ON MY BALLOT?

Yes! In 2025, the City Council formed a Charter Revision Commission which looked at updating our City Charter. Bridgeport’s City Charter is like our city’s constitution. It dictates how our government is structured and what safeguards are in place. On the right side of your ballot, you will be asked to vote on 2 questions to reform our charter, which has not been updated since 1993.

Ballot Question #1: Shall the City of Bridgeport approve and adopt Charter amendments to modernize the City Charter, including but not limited to, strengthening Ethics, reforming Civil Service, and establishing uniform standards for departments, boards and commissions?

A YES vote means you support…

  • Requiring the Mayor to provide an annual report on the “State of the City”
  • Establishing an Office of Municipal Ethics
  • Giving City Council the power to fill vacancies on our boards and commissions
  • Giving City Council more time to review the Mayor’s budget
  • Allowing City Council to create new municipal departments
  • And more!

A NO vote means you do not support these amendments.

Ballot Question #2: Shall the Charter be amended to discontinue electing the Town Clerk, City Clerk, and the municipal Sheriffs following the municipal election in 2027 at which election these positions will be filled for terms ending on November 30, 2031, and thereafter the Town Clerk and City Clerk positions will be filled by a non-partisan civil service selection process effective on or after December 1, 2031?

A YES vote means you support…

  • Making the City Clerk and Town Clerk non-partisan, civil service positions.

A NO vote means you want to keep these as political, elected positions

👉🏾 CAN I SEE MY SAMPLE BALLOT BEFORE THE ELECTION?

👉🏾 I DON’T KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR. WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THE CANDIDATES?

Next, most candidates have a social media page or a website. Candidates are also often written about in the local newspaper. You can research candidates online, in the newspaper, and through their social media.
