PLAN YOUR VOTE! CHECK THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

IN 2024, WHAT RACES ARE ON MY BALLOT?

Bridgeport voters already voted in a Special General Election for Mayor held on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024. 2024 is also a Presidential election year. On November 5th, the following races will be on your ballot:

President and Vice-President: elected nationally
U.S. Senate: elected statewide
U.S. Representative: elected by Congressional district. Bridgeport is in the 4th Congressional District.
State Senate: elected by State Senate District. Bridgeport is split into 2 Senate Districts – 22nd District and 23rd District.
State Representative: elected by State House District. Bridgeport is split into 7 House Districts – 124th, 126th, 127th, 128th, 129th, 130th, 133rd
Registrar of Voters: elected citywide

WILL THERE BE ANYTHING ELSE ON MY BALLOT?

Yes! This year, there is an important question on our ballots. It asks all Connecticut voters if we want to amend our state’s constitution to lift the restrictions on absentee voting and allow anyone to use an absentee ballot if they choose.

The question reads: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?”

It’s important to know what a YES vote means and what a NO vote means:

  • A YES vote on the question means that you support ending the 6 reasons why someone needs to qualify to use an absentee ballot
  • A NO vote means you want to keep the restrictions in place

Expanding access to the ballot is extremely important. Connecticut voters face some of the biggest obstacles to voting outside the South. In fact, 37 other states already allow universal access to absentee voting, including states like Florida, Wyoming, Georgia, and Nevada. Allowing all voters to vote by mail if they want to will increase voter participation.

Finally, opening up ballot access may actually SOLVE the problems in Bridgeport! The current restrictions on absentee voting actually work to encourage political operatives to target the same people every election cycle. By creating equal access to the ballot for everyone, more voters will choose to vote by mail. This could weaken “the machine’s” ability to harvest absentee ballots as a way to tip local elections in their favor.

CAN I SEE MY SAMPLE BALLOT BEFORE THE ELECTION?

Yes, sample ballots are available from the Town Clerk before every election. Click here to see your sample ballot for the November 5th General Election.

I DON’T KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR. WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THE CANDIDATES?

First, look at your sample ballot. Do you recognize any names? What do you already know about the candidates? Next, most candidates have a social media page or a website. Candidates are also often written about in the local newspaper. You can research candidates online, in the newspaper, and through their social media. This year, CT Insider has an online voter guide, as well as the CT Mirror.
